Why super hydrophobic-coatings for your car, boat, plane or motorcycle and not wax?
First hydrophobic basically means the treated surface is afraid of water, hence the root word phobia.
I have been a professional auto detailer for thirty years.Yeah, it wasn't supposed to turn out that way but it's an honest living for some hard work.
I have tried, and been successful with a multitude of waxes, polishes etc. etc. etc. on literally thousands of cars.
I have detailed show cars all over the country.
In my day I have personally detailed over 40,000 cars.
I became obsessed with making paint look right. That takes a lot of experience, and trial and error, when you are training yourself for a trade.
I can stand toe to toe with any detailer on the planet and perform.I do not say this to brag, but because you do not know me, I want to establish the fact that I know my shit when it comes to auto, yacht, motorcycle, aircraft detailing.
Hydrophobic-Coatings leave a hardened protective barrier between the paint (or other protected areas) and the harmful elements. This barrier provides a brilliant gloss and offers a level of protection to your car that can't be equaled by any wax or sealant. While most carnauba waxes last only a month or two, and sealants upwards of 4-6 months, you can expect years of durability with these hydro-phobic coatings.
One of the key features of hydrophobic-coatings is that
harmful and destructive contaminants won't stick to the surface as
easily...keeping your paint in much better condition for a longer period
of time. The surface is also resistant to environmental pollution
bonding with the factory paint layers.
I don't care what kind of car you have,if it protects this it will protect your car!!!!!!!!
Hydro-phobic surfaces with low wettability and contact angles have been known for a long time. The higher this angle the lower is the value of the adhe-sion work. Decreasing of the contact angle leads to enlarged values of the adhe-sion work (hydrophilic surfaces).
By transferring the microstructure of selected plant surfaces to practical materials, super-hydrophobic surfaces could be developed. The water repellency of plant surfaces has been known for many years. That water-repellent surfaces also indi-cate self-cleaning properties has been completely overlooked. Recently, Barthlott et al. investigated and proved the correlation between the micro structure, wettability and contaminants in detail using lotus leaves. This was called the Lotus Effect because it can be demonstrated beautifully with the great leaves of the lotus plant. The micro rough surfaces show contact angles higher than 130o. That means, the adhesion of water, as well as particles is extremely reduced. Water which contacts such surfaces will be immediately contracted to droplets. The particles of contaminants adhere to the droplet surfaces and are removed from the rough surface when the droplets roll of
They say the customer is always right, and their is merit to that, but a computer geek cannot tell me what is best for my car any more than I can tell a computer guy about computers.
So if he says, this is the best this or that wax for his car, boat, plane or motorcycle I am going to say NO it is not.
Hydrophobic-coatings is what I will say.It is easy for me to use and it is the best value for the customer
4. UV protection
The shine from this product is not comparable to any other product on the
market. It has to be seen in real life.
When you talk about surfaces being hydrophobic you often talk about the water contact angle of the surface. The higher angle the less dirt or liquid will attach to the surface. A drive in the rain will make the car look newly washed. This hydrophobic effect will last a lifetime if maintained correctly.
If it works on this jet it will work on your car
Ten years ago I got a call from some guy in Wisconsin.Someone gave him my number. He wants me to try a new car care product.
I blow him off because guess what? It was probably the same old recycled technology.
He said he would send it for free.I gave him my address.
Fast forward ten years.
I USE NOTHING BUT HYDROPHOBIC-COATINGS IN MY BUSY DETAILING BUSINESS.
These coatings are easy to apply and last incredible amounts of time. They work on glass, vinyl leather virtually everything. So why doesn't everybody use them.
I have no clue except for the fact that there are many people robbing people blind
because the stuff is that good.
Do not be ripped off.
It should cost no more than twenty bucks to buy enough of this technology to treat four cars. The one I use and sell is Simix
If you think wax is better I Say....................
The guys that got me involved are not greedy fools, just guys trying to make a good living selling a product that is incredible.
There car coatings have many applications. You can literally treat any surface from counter-tops to shower stalls and everything in between.
You can not treat floors. To slick
They also incorporate nano Tio2 for the self cleaning effect.
These guys are into potassium silicate technology and are huge in the never strip again floor coatings.
Potassium silicates basically are ambient temperature cured glass.
The car care business is not even on their radar. They tried it but the profits were bigger in floors, which is a similar technology but not slippery, and hvac coatings.
So in other words do not waste your time using wax when you can be blown away with the smart phone of the car care world.
Below is a video of a company in Australia that sells Simix but it is called Smart Kote. The video explains how the technology works
In the video below this young man proves that a hydrophobic surface on a boat will have less drag, therefore faster
So yes I know as a car appearance freak it is hard to break away from trying this and trying that. There are thousands of auto appearance products on the market and many are very good.
I still use Meguiars polishes,3M compounds and even some auto magic, but when the time comes for the final coat of protection I will be going hydrophobic for life.
Now as hydrophobic-coatings go, is Simix the best in the world? I don't know because I have not tried any of the others.I figure if I have something that works great no need to search any more.
Some have said that they have found hydrophobic-coatings that were better, but the price was off the charts.
By the way after 30 years in the detail business,NOTHING LAST FOREVER.There is no such thing as a forever paint protection, but eight to ten months for me is fine.
One of the best parts of hydrophobic coatings like simix is it is a sprayable hydrophobic coating.
This is the new label. The company did not want to restrict itself only to automotive. This coating can ultimately protect any surface incredibly well.
Protector Plus will protect auto, marine, household, aircraft.(Not FAA approved)
